Measuring just 23.5 inches (59.9cm), Junrey Balawing has been officially declared by Guinness as the World’s Shortest Man.
Junrey bested Khagendra Tharpa Magar from Nepal who measured 26 inches (67.08cm) and who was the previous title holder.
Junrey just turned 18 which made him eligible for the record. Local doctors have not been able to determine the cause of his condition which is why the Guinness record will play a vital role in attracting worldwide attention from medical professionals around the world who would be able to help him.
"The previous record holder had been given medical care... He even had free surgery provided by the U.S.A. So there are benefits to being a record holder," says Guinness editor-in-chief Craig Glenday.
Junrey lives in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.
