Scientists turn tequila into diamonds

November 11, 2008

Mexican scientists were able to discover yet another valuable use for the country's prized tequila, turn it into diamonds. The experiment began 13 years ago with synthetic diamonds which are made by technological process as opposed to natural diamonds made by geological process. They found out that the heated vapor from tequila blanco, when deposited on a stainless steel base, can form diamond films. They are now considering varied applications from the discovery from radiation detection to electronics since the diamonds are not suited for jewelry because they are too small.
