Kryptonite is Real!

August 25, 2007

Well, what do you know, the mythical stone that can cause harm to Superman aka The Man of Steel is actually real. Miners unearthed the newly found mineral in the Jadar regions of Serbia hence it was officially named as Jadarite by London's Natural History of Museum. Its synonimous composition to kryptonite was discovered by Dr. Chris Stanley, a minerologist, when he was browsing the web using the new mineral's chemical formula - sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide, the same description of kryptonite used in the film Superman Returns.
Though the fictional kryptonite is green and glows as it emits radiation, jadarite is actually harmless and is white in color though it turns pink when shone at with ultraviolet light. So, why Jadarite instead of Kryptonite? Well kryptonite can not be used because the material does not contain krypton which is a real element in the Periodic Table with an atomic number of 36.
